Economic Cycle Periods for Maintenance Painting

Pages 1-13 | Published online: 19 Dec 2017

Abstract

Maintenance painting of the exterior of buildings is discussed along with the results of a survey to determine its effectiveness. A model based upon the policy of adhering to a constant painting cycle over the building's life is developed. It is found that economic optional cycles with a socially acceptable period may exist, but are unlikely to be global optima. Different forms of objective cost function are investigated.
