Abstract
This paper deals with the word length distribution in 21 letters of modern standard Arabic. Even though studies of this kind have already been done for many texts in many languages (Compare Best 1997a), Semitic languages have not been satisfactorily investigated until now. As far as I know there is only one study concerned with Hebrew texts (Balschun 1997), but none dealing with the Arabic language. Accordingly, the object of this study is not only to examine Arabic texts with respect to word length, but also to get more information about Semitic languages in general.
