Theory of Organisation and Linguistics

Pages 201-213 | Published online: 09 Aug 2010

Abstract

The notion of organisation is frequently confused with the concept of order and other concepts. In this paper, configurational organisation – where entropy and information play a central role – is differentiated from functional organisation. For the latter, a measure is defined by introducing the notions of functional connection and co-operative dependencies. Examples are given how these concepts can be applied in quantitative linguistics.
