Abstract
Four known sesquiterpenols (ß-eudesmol, hinesol, elemol, a-bisabolol) were isolated from the MeOH extract of the dried rhizomes of Atractylodes lancea. These compounds, moderately (IC 50, 10 -4 –10 -5 M) inhibited the in vitro binding of [3 H]arginine vasopressin and [3 H] angiotensin II to kidney membrane receptors. The MeOH extracts of Atractylodes plants rhizomes varied in antagonistic activity, which correlated with the variation of ß-eudesmol and hinesol.
