Abstract

High-performance liquid chromatographic analysis of a methanol extract of Polygonum viscosum has yielded a novel sesquiterpene acid, 6-hydroxy-4-methoxycarbonyl-7-(1-methylethyl)-3,3a,6,7,8,8a-hexahydroazulene-1-carboxylic acid (named viscozulenic acid) [1], the structure of which was unambiguously elucidated by UV, HR-EIMS, and a series of 1D and 2D NMR experiments.
