Abstract
The effect of administrating different extracts of Helicteres isora L. (Sterculiaceae) roots on blood glucose levels in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats was evaluated in this study. Among the five fractions (aqueous ethanol, chloroform, ethyl acetate, butanol and left over aqueous), the butanol fraction at a dose of 250 mg/kg showed maximum antihyperglycemic activity. The same dose did not cause any hypoglycemic activity in normal rats.
