Abstract

During screening of 20 essential oils against Epidermophyton floccosum and Microsporum gypseum, the test dermatophytes, the oils of Ocimum gratissimum and Trachyspermum ammi exhibited strong antidermatophytic properties. The ointments of the oils blocked dermatomycosis induced with guinea pigs, thereby indicating their efficacy as herbal treatments for the cure of dermatomycoses.
