SUMMARY
Establishment of the United States Department of Agriculture in 1862 made possible the later use of Federal-grant funds for agricultural research in the United States, including poultry breeding research. This was followed by the Hatch Act of 1887, the Adams Act of 1906, the Purnell Act of 1925, and the Bankhead-Jones Act of 1935. The amendment of the Bankhead-Jones Act in 1946 provided for cooperative regional research, and the Hatch act was amended in 1955 consolidating the previous laws relating to Federal-grant funds. More recently, the Research Facilities Act of 1963 and the Act of 1965 providing for special grants for basic and applied research have made available additional Federal funds to support research on poultry breeding as well as on other agricultural research.

La fondation du Département d'Agriculture des Etats-Unis en 1862 a rendu possible l'usage ultérieur de subventions fédérales pour la recherche agricole aux Etats-Unis, incluant les recherches en sélection aviaire. Ceci fut suivi par le “Hatch Act” de 1887, le “Adams Act” de 1906, le “Purnell Act” de 1925, et le “Bankhead-Jones Act” de 1935.
