Abstract
In the past several years, carotid angioplasty as an alternative to carotid endarterectomy has developed as an evolving technology performed routinely in many centres worldwide.
In this article we review the current status of the results of carotid artery stenting based on observational series and randomised trials.
We highlight the acute outcome, the long-term results and the occurrence of restenosis of the endovascular therapy and present a brief description of the latest stenting studies compared to randomized surgery trials.
