The Latissimus Dorsi Flap for Reconstruction of a Paralysed Deltoid

Abstract

A case with complete paralysis of the deltoid muscle with irreperable axillary nerve lesion was treated with a functional muscle transfer. The latissimus dorsi muscle was preparated as an island flap, turned over and sutured to the trapezius at one side and to the original deltoid insertion on the humerus at the other side. Function and cosmesis were excellent.
