Pages 171-185 | Published online: 11 Mar 2016

Abstract

Lesions of the biliary tract can happen during the performance of different types of surgery, not only biliary surgery itself. Mainly five types of surgery are responsible for these events: Biliary surgery, Liver surgery, Portal Hypertension surgery, Pancreatic surgery, Gastric surgery.

We will concentrate on biliary surgery itself, excluding the specific problems from liver transplant surgery. Surgery for biliary lithiasis, tumours, inflammatory conditions, bilio-digestive anastomosis, placement of prosthesis or tumour intubations or biliary re-interventions, can all be cause for complications, specific of the biliary tree.
