Giant Adrenal Myelolipoma: A Case Report

Abstract

Adrenal myelolipomas are rare, benign, hormonally inactive tumours composed of mature adipose tissue and haematopoietic elements. Currently, most diagnosed tumours are discovered incidentally because of modern imaging. Myelolipomas are usually asymptomatic, but symptoms such as abdominal pain, haematuria and abdominal mass are described as the result of tumour bulk, haemorrhage or tumour necrosis. Myelolipomas are usually small, although there are descriptions of giant myelolipomas in the literature. We report the case of a giant adrenal myelolipoma in a 79-year-old female who presented with epigastric pain and discomfort. The resected tumour weighed 1777 g and measured 20.5 χ 18 χ 9.0 cm.
