Abstract
This survey is a follow-up to a pilot Phase I survey conducted during 1966. This survey, Phase II, was conducted in 1967 among the plant engineering members of the American Institute of Plant Engineers. It was felt that plant engineers should be the source of this vital information as they have the primary responsibility to operate and maintain industry’s air pollution control equipment. Information requested covered (1) type pollutant and source, whether “under control,” “planned for control,” or “not controlled”; (2) cost of control equipment; (3) installation costs; (4) operating costs (power, fuel, labor, replacement parts); (5) equipment breakdown frequency; (6) cost of collected waste disposal; (7) a listing of unsolved air pollution problems; (8) person or agency most helpful in air pollution control information and services; (9) per cent cost related to manufacturing cost; and (10) suggested design improvements for air pollution control equipment. Air pollution control problems vary significantly by type of industry. For this reason, initial survey results have been studied and reported by 2-digit S.I.C. industry classificatio
