Abstract
An essay on the art and science of electrostatic precipitation was presented by Harry J. White in November 1982 at a symposium in Tokyo for the Institute of Electrostatics Japan. The paper is written in a philosophic rather than a scientific vein “in order to express a personal viewpoint distilled over many years on the subject.” The editors obtained Dr. White’s permission to publish the essay and are pleased to do so in this issue of JAPCA.
