A Reformulation of the Concept of Argument: The Constructivist/Interactionist Foundations of a Sociology of Argument

Abstract

The traditional view of argument, based upon the positivistic assumption that argument is a “thing” experienced alike by all persons, is criticized, and an alternative view, grounded in constructivism (personal construct theory) and symbolic interactionism is outlined.
