A Note on the Range and Utility of the Universal Audience

Pages 83-87 | Published online: 23 Jan 2018

Abstract

The essay argues that philosophy which values the speaker-audience relationship makes more significant epistemic use of the universal audience than that which does not. It then extends the utility of the universal audience to non-philosophical discourse with epistemic aims, which also values the relationship, and explains how the universal audience might be applied in such discourse.
