Abstract
The 1961 Cummings Memorial Award was given posthumously to Manfred Bowditch at the annual banquet of the American Industrial Hygiene Association at Detroit, Michigan, April 12, 1961. His wife, Mrs. Elfriede Bowditch, was unable to attend and asked that their longtime friend, Dr. Thomas L. Shipman, accept the award for them. In keeping with the honor intended and carried by this award, it is most appropriate that we present here Dr. Shipman's remarks on acceptance of the award on behalf of Mrs. Bowditch.
