Some Experience with Radioiodine In the Reactor Buildings at Chalk River

Pages 240-244 | Published online: 27 Dec 2007

Abstract

Practical experience with radioiodine in the heavy water reactors at Chalk River is described. Airborne and surface contamination caused by the release of radioiodine from ruptured fuel in the reactor and defective fuel samples in the high pressure, high temperature experimental loops are discussed. Monitoring techniques, skin contamination and uptake of radioiodine by operating personnel are described briefly.
