Abstract
Light and lighting are important production tools. Levels of illumination must be such that a worker can see his task in order to perform it quickly, accurately, safely and easily. Furthermore, the brightness relationships in the entire work area should not detract from a worker's ability to see and should not produce discomfort. Today's lighting recommendations are based upon a great deal of research and increasing evidence of user benefits is supplementing and confirming the laboratory data.
