Gases Released When Fire Resistant Epoxy Resins Are Burned

Pages 475-480 | Published online: 27 Dec 2007

Abstract

The gases resulting from the burning of halogenated epoxy resins were analyzed by various techniques to identify the component gases. Five resins were studied. Phosgene and phosgene-type gases were not found. The free halogens and hydrogen halides were predominant in the gaseous products, and are considered of greatest importance relative to health and safety. The irritancy of the gases provides a warning mechanism to prevent voluntary acute over-exposure.
