Abstract
The inhalation toxicity of combustion products of nine smokes, flares and lights has been investigated. Toxic signs, such as eye irritation, could be directly attributed to the physical action of the particulate matter. Particulate retention in the nasal passages, as well as in the deep recesses of the lung, many days after exposure was observed with all pyrotechnics. The capacity of the particulate for causing injury from the smokes seemed to be more of a hazard than those from the light and flares studied.
