Pages 560-563 | Published online: 27 Dec 2007

Abstract

The acute toxicity of three episulphide compounds, namely, ethylene sulphide, propylene sulphide, and chloropropylene sulphide has been investigated. On inhalation, respiratory irritation is produced and death occurs from pulmonary edema and depression of the central nervous system. Oral LD50 values were determined to be 0.178 ml/kg (178 mg/kg), 0.269 ml/kg (254 mg/kg) and 0.056 ml/kg (68 mg/kg) respectively. Intraperitoneal LD50 values were determined as 0.042 ml/kg (42 mg/kg), 0.047 ml/kg (44 mg/kg), and 0.034 ml/kg (41 mg/kg) respectively.
