Abstract
The reports of the Federal Radiation Council and the Manual Chapters of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission present radiation guides and regulations establishing levels that should not be exceeded in normal, or planned, operations. To assure that exposures will not exceed the levels stipulated by the guides and regulations (except in accidents or emergencies), Oak Ridge National Laboratory has established operating levels generally somewhat below the recommended maximum levels. Control measures are initiated when the operating levels are exceeded. The action points and corresponding control measures discussed in this paper are those established and applied at ORNL with proved effectiveness.
