Abstract

The air oxidation of monomethyl hydrazine was examined using gas chromatography and infrared spectrophotometry. Major products were found to be molecular nitrogen and methane. First order kinetics were obeyed and half-life calculated to be 34 minutes under the conditions used. Evidence that the reaction was surface catalyzed was provided by the much faster rate shown when a polyethylene container was substituted for glass.
