Abstract
An extensive program of noise control has been conducted at the various process sites within the Hanford Atomic Plant. At the outset, criteria were developed to provide a basis for judging the severity of noise conditions, and the high noise level areas were surveyed and categorized on the basis of these criteria. In retrospect, this program has demonstrated that effective control of industrial noise does not require sophisticated, expensive techniques. This statement is supported by a number of specific examples where glass fiber blanket material, acoustical baffles, mufflers, and simple system modifications were utilized to good effect in combating problems of high noise level.
