Abstract
There is a swelling upsurge of interest among smaller educational institutions in the development of undergraduate industrial hygiene programs. The following article is presented to provide broad and rapid dissemination of information useful to similar institutions contemplating entry into the industrial hygiene educational field. Also, future employers should be aware of this important new development, aimed at supplying the trained personnel so urgently needed in the profession. Founded in 1867, St. Augustine's has a current enrollment of 1600 students. Participation in the IH program has grown from 5 in 1975 to between 20 and 25 at this time. The Occupational Safety and Health Program at St. Augustine's College leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene. This program enables the students to enter careers in practice and research in industry and government or to pursue graduate studies. The curriculum in industrial hygiene provides a broad academic foundation during the first two years of college, after which, students proceed with advanced studies in industrial hygiene and supporting courses in the natural and behavioral sciences. St. Augustine's College industrial hygiene and safety curriculum course descriptions are presented and other aspects of the program are discussed.
