Walter Rudin
WALTER RUDIN was born in Austria in 1921 and received much of his education in WWII. This was followed by four years at Duke University leading to a Ph.D. He taught at M.I.T., at the University of Rochester, and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Practically all his research has been in classical analysis. He has written several books, for which he was awarded a Steele Prize. His latest (and last), The Way I Remember It, was recently published by the American Mathematical Society. He retired from teaching in 1991 but is still addicted to mathematics.
