Biostatistics Cores: Improving the Chances for Funding

Pages 99-101 | Received 01 Nov 1991, Published online: 27 Feb 2012

Abstract

A Biostatistics Core provides support for research projects with a common programmatic theme. The Core organization presents an opportunity for long-term, effective interaction between statisticians and scientists. Statisticians seeking this type of support should prepare for both a peer review and a general review from the nonstatistical members of the review committee. Demonstration of technical excellence alone is usually not sufficient for approval. The applicants must also convince the review committee that the Biostatistics Core budget is cost effective and that the Core's activities will increase the quality and productivity of the overall research program.
