Abstract

An approach to the determination of catechol estrogens is described. The study involves the di-O-ethylation of a catechol estrogen by extractive alkylation and quantitative determination using selected ion monitoring mass spectrometry. The effects of antioxidant and base concentrations on reaction yield are discussed. It is shown that the derivatization is both reproducible and quantitative when nanogram amounts of analyte are derivatized.
