Abstract
The efficiency of current during the oxidation of mercury metal by galvanostatic coulometry was total in the presence of thiosulphate. The electrogravimetric determination of the number of electrons involved in the oxidation of metallic mercury in the presence of substances which have a great affinity for mercury ions, showed that n=2 in the electrochemical step. On the other hand, the mass variation was not a good method to determine n in the absence of complexing agent due to a coupled chemical process.
