Determination of Organic Acids in Alkylphenolethoxylate Surfactants by Anion Exclusion High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract

A simple method is described for the determination of residual organic acids, used as catalyst neutralizers, in alkylphenolethoxylates. The detection limit is 12 ppm. Method validation data is included. Commercially produced surfactants were analyzed and found to contain acetate in the range 600 ppm to 2300 ppm.
