Abstract

The present work describes the development of a simple chemiluminometric method for the determination of enrofloxacin, based on the chemical generation of . In order to achieve CL conditions, two streams containing solutions of and acidic Ce(IV) were mixed. Optima chemical conditions for the CL emission were: 12.5 mM Ce(IV) in 50 mM H2SO4 and 3.0 mM of . The present method was applied to the determination of this antibacterial agent in commercial preparation, with excellent recovery, as the analysis is free from interference from common excipients in the formulation. This antibacterial is not an authorized veterinary drug for use in animals from which eggs are produced for human consumption. This method can be very useful for illegal use testing. It is capable of confirming the presence of this quinolone for concentrations above 125 ng/g. When applied to egg, it is necessary to extract the residues by acidic aqueous solution followed by centrifugation and evaporation to dryness.
