Abstract

A high performance liquid chromatographic procedure is presented for the determination of phenolphthalein and aloin in pharmaceutical tablets. An aliquot of the sample is dissolved in the mobile phase containing acetaminophen as an internal standard and chromatographed on a 10 μm, waters pre-packed, u-porasil (silica, 150 mm×3.9 mm i.d.), column at ambient temperature. The mobile phase used was consisted of chloroform: methanol: acetic acid in a ratio of 88: 12: 0.5. The method was tested for linearity, recovery and specificity and was found to be fast, sensitive and reproducible. The total elution time is less than two minutes.
