Abstract

Gas chromatography with semiautomatic headspace injection and flame ionization detection has been applied to the determination of halogenated hydrocarbons in drinking water in Galicia (N.W. Spain). Chromatographic and injection parameters have been optimized for quantitative determination with nbutanol as internal reference. Of the 10 hydrocarbons determind in samples from 233 localities, tetrachloroethylene and carbon tetrachloride had concentrations greater than those permitted by the WHO (10 ppb and 3 ppb, respectively).
