Abstract

The mixed micellar media of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HTAB) as a cationic surfactant and poly(oxyethylene) - cetylether (Brij 35) as a nonionic surfactant was used for a highly sensitive spectrophotometric determination of tantalum with o-hydroxyhydroquinonephthalein(Qnph) at strong acidic media. Beer's law was obeyed for 0 - 18.0 μg of tantalum in 10 ml, and the apparent molar absorption coefficient was 1.07 × 105 1. mol−1. cm−1. with Sandell's sensitivity of 0.0017 μg/cm2 tantalum at 540 nm.
