Abstract

The effect of various routes of blood collection on blood glucose concentrations have been examined. It was observed that in normal rats the blood collection from heart immediately after cervical dislocation showed 50% higher values as compared to tail-vein of live animals, while the blood collection by tail-vein and neck-cutting did not produce a difference in normal rats. The blood glucose values of diabetic rats were higher by 15 to 18% when blood was collected from heart or by neck-cutting in comparison to tail-vein.
