Abstract

In 0. 1mol/LKCl+0.02mol/LHCl solution pH=1.66, the electrochemical behaviour of metronidazole has been studied by linear-sweep voltammetry and cyclic voltammertry at a Co/Glassy Carbon (GC) ion implantation modified electrode. The experments showed that the electrode had good stability and reproducibility. The peak height was proportional to the concentration of metronidazole over the range of 4.0 × 10−7 to 1.0 × 10−4 mol/L and the detection limit was 2.0 × 10−7mol/L. This method has been used for the direct determination of metronidazole in tablets. Recoveries were in the range from 94.0% to 104.2%. The reduction of metronidazole at a Co/GC electrode was an irreversible process.
