1‘Il suo progetto consiste nel voler dare a tutta la matematica una base ben più solida di quella espressa dalla tradizione, in cui grosso modo il linguaggio geometrico è il linguaggio di tutta la matematica. Tale linguaggio nuovo è individuato in quella mathesis, che trova la sua più alta espressione nel linguaggio algebrico’ (p. 11).
