Abstract
A six-month retrospective survey was undertaken on the pattern of illness among road construction workers in the Plateau and Bauchi areas of Nigeria.
The most common injuries reported were injuries to the soft tissues, ‘aches and pains’, malaria, gastro-intestinal disorders, respiratory infections, eye injuries and infections and gonorrhoea. Sixty severe injuries resulted in the loss often lives and various degrees of disability; most of these injuries resulted from motor vehicle accidents at work.
