Abstract
A community study of Schistosoma mansoni egg excretion was made in St. Lucia, using the Bell and Kato techniques. The apparent intensity of infection was higher when examined by the Kato technique, the ratio Kato: Bell varying inversely with the level of egg excretion. The main reason for the higher counts with the Kato method was probably that the stool had been sieved whereas the Bell method used whole stool samples.
