Solutions of the wave equation which decay with respect to time at a prescribed rate

Abstract

This paper studies the initial boundary value problem for the wave equation for the region between two infinite parallel planes. It shows how initial data can be constructed so that the solution decays at an arbitrary rate with increase in time. A method is then sketched as to how this result can be extended to some non-planar surfaces
