Abstract
This paper deals with the undetermined coefficient problem for a shallow ocean with an unknown inhomogeneity and an elastic seabed. Using a formulation of the direct problem as given in [5], we pose a scheme by which the acoustic parameters of the seabed may be determined. Our method uses the information which is reflected and scattered by the finite depth elastic seabed. The acoustic field is computed using a normal modal expansion and transmutation to obtain an explicit characteristic equation. The modal solutions are computed exactly using a computer algebra system, and the far field is then found using an integral representation.
