Abstract

A hybrid earth air duct system consisting of an evaporative cooling system for providing thermal comfort in an auditorium of College of Engineering Roorkee has been evaluated during peak summer period. The system produces a cooling rate of nearly 40 kW with coefficient of performance ranging from 3.4 to 4.3. It is also observed that the TSI in the auditorium is lowered by 5°C when the system is put in operation. The decrease in TSI is only 2°C when the evaporative cooling device of the system is switched off.
