Abstract

The capacitance respirometer is a new device for measuring respiratory volumes and flow rates. Surface area changes of the abdomen and rib cage during respiration are defected and related to the inspired and expired gas volumes. Except for calibrating, human lung function testing is quickly accomplished and recorded without a mouthpiece, nose clip, or any other type of external attachment.
