Abstract

Thirteen cases of sudden pupil dilatation were observed among civilians in Rotterdam in the course of two days. Except for one person, all victims had been in the neighborhood of a quay where a ship had been unloading Duboisia myoporoides leaves from Australia. Two workmen, who had also suffered from unilateral mydriasis, gave the clue to the ship from which the dust originated. The material was apparently too coarsely divided and too heavy to cause more cases of mydriasis.
