Abstract

In order to elucidate the role of sulfur dioxide (S02) on the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive lung disease, Syrian hamsters with experimentally produced emphysema were exposed chronically to high concentrations of S02 (650 ppm)m This produced a mild bronchitic lesion with relatively minor changes in the mechanical properties of the lung.
