Abstract
The interaction of cholesterol-4-14C with certain α-globulins referred to as transcholesterins was studied by three procedures: Avigan’s method, vertical starch zone electrophoresis, and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Detergent (Teepol ‘L’) was not used in any of these procedures. The experimental results indicate that the uptake of radioactive cholesterol requires the formation of a complex between cholesterol and transcholesterin-active α-globulins. These data support the concept that cholesterol actually is bound to transcholesterin-active proteins.
