Abstract

A digital computer program has been developed to measure respiratory system flow resistance in cynomolgus monkeys and in guinea pigs. This program permitted rapid evaluation of this parameter in large groups of animals. The normal variation and trends have been delineated by measurements made over a period of 18 months in cynomolgus monkeys and 12 months in guinea pigs. The technique can be used for evaluation of the effects of longterm exposure to various air pollutants and other aerosols to detect possible effects on the pulmonary system.
