Thresholds in Cancer Induction

Pages 692-695 | Received 06 Jul 1970, Accepted 27 Jul 1970, Published online: 29 Apr 2013

Abstract

Biological and physicochemical factors have been reported to be important determinants in how an animal responds to a carcinogenic agent. Examples of these factors are presented. When one considers the multiplicity of these factors as well as the lack of knowledge concerning the actual mechanisms of carcinogenic action, it becomes extremely difficult to estimate thresholds, perhaps impossible at present.
