Abstract
Medical records and death certificates of women with uterine malignancies often do not indicate whether the neoplasm arose in the cervix or in the corpus. To clarify this situation, questionnaires requesting more specific information were sent to the physician or hospital named on the death certificate to obtain a representative group of over 3,000 deaths ascribed only to “cancer of the uterus.” Results showed that a substantial proportion of these deaths were from cervical cancer. The common practice of grouping all unspecified uterine malignancies with corpus cancer may lead to serious errors in studies of both cervical and corpus neoplasms.
